Recently, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Committee on Goat Planning was formed. Speaking about the pending Tamil Nadu petitions in the Supreme Court, Durai Murugan said the legal battle over the construction of the Mekedadattu Dam is ready. We will take appropriate action in consultation with legal experts.
The statement issued by Doraimurugan, the joint committee of the National Green Tribunal, which has taken seriously the report of unauthorized construction activities in Mekedad, has taken up the matter.
The Tamil Nadu government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court in 2018 seeking permission for the Central Water Commission to grant permission to Karnataka to proceed with the preparation of a comprehensive project report for the construction of a new dam near Mekedadu. After that, there is discussion again and again about the project and a committee has been set up to study whether the project will impact the environment. After the formation of the committee, the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister, in consultation with the lawyers, hinted at the decision for a legal fight.
